Another’s Perspective

Writing Exercise from PROSA earlier this month. We were to write something from a perspective that was not in line with our own thinking. Tom Lin and I had been talking about the mediums we write with, as I’d been enjoying my new Lamy fountain pen, whereas he’d taken to writing on his iPhone. Here’s what came out in a few short minutes!

He couldn’t understand it, the feel of anything except glass under his fingertips. It was his window into the world, laying in the palm of his hand. The window into reality and the window into his imagination. He’d forgotten the glide of pen on paper, or how pencil graphite scrapped the same surface. He’d even forgotten the clicking of the computer keyboard, whose color and shape marked his growth from child to man. Now his world was a glowing glass surface.
